Lifestyle & Maintenance
Daily Maintenance Routine
Brushing
- To avoid pulling on the beads or wefts, use a loop brush or a wide-tooth comb specifically designed for extensions.
- Start from the ends of your hair, gently working your way up to the roots. Avoid tugging or pulling at the base where the wefts are attached.
- Brush 2-3 times a day, especially in the morning and before bed, to prevent tangling.
Sectioning
Gently separate the rows daily with your fingers to ensure no hair gets trapped or tangled between the wefts. This helps prevent matting at the roots.
Styling
- Use heat protectant spray before using hot tools such as straighteners, curling irons, or blow dryers. Keeping heat styling to a minimum will prolong the life of the extensions.
- Avoid excessive pulling or tension when styling, as this can loosen the beads.
Products
- Use sulfate-free, paraben-free, and alcohol-free products to protect the integrity of the extensions. Harsh ingredients can dry out the hair and cause the bonds to weaken.
- We carry Eufora products, like Smooth’n Oil Therapy, which can be applied to the mid-lengths and ends of the hair to add hydration and shine without causing slippage.
- Avoid heavy oils or conditioners near the root area, as this can cause the wefts to slip or weaken the beads.
Washing and Drying Routine
Washing Frequency
- Wash your hair no more than 2-3 times per week to avoid over-drying both your natural hair and the extensions.
- In between washes, use a dry shampoo to freshen your scalp and roots.
Shampooing
- When washing, apply shampoo at the roots and gently massage your scalp using your fingertips without tangling the wefts. Be sure to cleanse the weft area thoroughly but gently.
- Rinse with lukewarm water, as hot water can dry out the extensions.
Conditioning
- Apply conditioner to the mid-lengths and ends only. Avoid applying conditioner or heavy products near the beads or where the extensions are attached, as this can loosen them.
- Let the conditioner sit for a few minutes, then gently rinse.
Drying
- Gently towel-dry your hair by patting it to absorb excess water—don’t rub vigorously, as this can cause tangling.
- Air dry whenever possible. If you need to blow dry, use a low heat setting and make sure the extensions are completely dry to avoid moisture buildup at the roots, which can cause matting or mold.
Sleeping with Extensions
Braid or Bun
- Before bed, gently brush your hair and put it into a loose braid or low ponytail to prevent tangling while you sleep. You can also use a soft, silk scrunchie to avoid breakage.
- For added protection, consider wearing a silk or satin scarf or sleeping on a silk pillowcase to minimize friction.
Nighttime Moisturizing
Use a lightweight leave-in conditioner or a few drops of hydrating oil on the ends of your extensions to keep them moisturized overnight.
Swimming & Working Out
Swim Prep
- If you’re swimming in chlorine or saltwater, protect your extensions by applying a leave-in conditioner or hair oil beforehand to create a barrier. Always tie your hair in a low braid or ponytail.
- Rinse your hair immediately after swimming to remove any chlorine, salt, or other chemicals.
Working Out
For workouts, pull your hair into a low bun or braid to keep the extensions secure. If your scalp sweats, consider rinsing your hair afterward and blow-drying the roots to avoid moisture buildup.
Monthly & Long-term Care Tips
1. Regular Move-ups
Visit your salon every 6-8 weeks for a professional move-up. During these appointments, your stylist will readjust the beads and reposition the wefts to ensure they remain secure and in the best condition.
2. Avoid DIY Adjustments
Never attempt to move or adjust your extensions on your own. Always book a professional appointment for adjustments or repairs.
3. Hair Masks & Deep Conditioning
Every other week, treat your extensions to a deep conditioning treatment (avoiding the root area) to keep them soft and shiny. Your stylist can recommend the best masks for your extensions.
